Principal Minute

Principal Murdoch

Our PTO meeting was a little interesting with the fire alarms in the background, keep that in mind when watching the video above.  Here are the notes from the meeting and specifically from Mr. Murdoch’s Principal Minutes.  It was great to hear from him on the administration’s plans for the school.

Watch for flyers coming home

The Elementary will be sending home flyers in the kids backpacks to outline new programs and special projects for the holidays.  Keep an eye out!

t

Future of the principal position

Mr. Murdoch spoke to the district about the future of the Principal position and schedule at Woodland Hills Elementary.  The position will continue with the same setup with Mr. Murdoch  3 days a week  (Mon, Wed, & Thurs) and Mr. Smith (Tues and Fri) 2 days a week until after the new superintendent is hired.

Indoor Recess Plans

Indoor recess has been difficult with the noise level and space to just walk the halls.  We’ll be implementing a Reading Hall,  Games Hall, and Movies area, help the kids still get a break, some fresh air but do it in a way that doesn’t interrupt the other classrooms.

School Wide Passport program

We are working to create a culture in the school where the students have school-wide expectations. The teachers have identified 8-9 areas in the school to address. Such as the Halls, Bathrooms, Lunchroom, etc.

The goal is to be SAFE, RESPECTFUL, and RESPONSIBLE in each of those areas. We’ll be implementing little short positive statements that support the behavior for each area and we’ll be having an assembly after Christmas to get things going.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY for PARENTS: If you are interested in being a part of the School Wide Passport Assembly after Christmas, contact the front office and let them know you’d like to volunteer to help.

November testing

November is a benchmark window for reading testing at the school. The new testing is called IStation (old test IRI Testing) which will finish up on Friday, 11/30.

No Fuss Fundraiser: Raised just over $8,000.  We have $2,000 more we’d like to raise and so we’ll be planning a small fundraiser to finish up the goal in the spring.

Book Fair:

  • Amazing!  We earned a little over $7000 in sales and the Library received 50% of the sales in credit for new books.
  • The Library has received close to a 100 NEW BOOKS so far from the Book Fair and  they were so appreciative of the support from the community!
  • Book Fair patrons donated over 60 BOOKS to the teachers and classroom libraries during the Book Fair that will be delivered for Christmas.
  • Thank you to all our Volunteers, we had a great time. Plus a special thank you to Erica Deschamps and Amy Clark for planning and running the Book Fair they did an amazing job!

“We appreciate your donations. We have zero budget (for the library), so the Book Fair has been a God send!”

  • Thanks to the volunteers, Reed and Chelsea Haight, and Antonio for setting up the tables.
  • It went well, although we want to note for next year that we need to spread the word that the donuts are FREE! That it’s a Free event for families.
h

Restaurant Nights (Gina P.)

  • Pizza Pie Cafe: Dec 3rd – 7th.  You must bring your card that came home with the flyer for our school to earn the 25% of the sales. You can go anytime during the week.
h

Candy Cane Grams Dec 3rd-7th (Alisha Warner)

  • For all grades. Have Kindergarten students turn the message in to their teachers and then they will bring them down to us at lunch.
  • Anyone can buy them for students or staff at the school.
  • You can use the flyer that came home to fill them out and send them in, or you can download them from website (click here).
  • 25 cents each or 3 box tops to purchase.
h

Proposed New Sound System for the School

  • The school needs to replace the sound system in the gym.  After all our performance events in the school, we’ve seen how terrible this system is to use and how it sounds and works. We will be looking into quotes for a sound system, if all looks good, Mr. Murdoch will apply for matching funds from the district as well. We estimate this project to cost up to $6000 total. Stay tuned and we’ll send more information in the coming weeks.
h

Class Party Funds

  • Discussion on how to spend the class party funds donated before the new school year.
